There are sooooooo many things different cultures take from each other that may have roots that go back to a certain religion, but as time goes by...it turns from religion into culture. Remember Mardi Gras, back in Louisiana? That has roots in Catholicism! But does it have anything to do with Catholicism now? Of course not! The same can be said about Yoga, NLP, and other trends that we see all around us.
As for the fatwa, in my humble opinion, if the thing is not associated directly to another religion and it has benefit to Muslims, then it's halal. Is yoga associated with a particular religion? Maybe a thousand years ago...but today...no. Does it benefit Muslims? Many say yes..SO WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL? A scholar who is way better..and more intelligent....than this council who made the this Fatwa, once said something 1400 years ago that made sense back then and still makes sense now...
