Excerpts from the Diary of a Pissed Off Bodybuilder
The good, the bad, and the ugly
i'm talking about news. i've been informed last saturday that the competition date has been postponed (again) to the 7th of december and it was signed and official. so, I'M IN!!! :) ... i have around 11 weeks to get ready and i'm already close to contest shape, so hopefully it'll be cake. the bad news is that i have to keep dieting through ramadhan. surprisingly, my food hasn't changed alot (steaks, potatoes, veggies, whey, more steaks, beef... etc) but it's just that i added a lot of sweets to that equation ( i have a maaaaaaad sweet tooth... and i'm never full...). so, i'm just gonna enjoy the sweets til next saturday and then start eating clean and doing cardio and all that other stuff. The ugly news is.... my gut is clogged. i mean seriously, i think i'm pregnant. i can see the top four abs clearly, and the bottom two are just a bit fuzzy... and my waist is at 34.5 right now. why? because its full of junk. so, i'm gonna take advantage of fasting and cleanse my colon. yeah, you wanted to hear that ;) ... lots of psyllium husk, fibers, and whatchamacallit oil (in arabic it's called khirwa'... i don't know what it's called in english), some laxatives... whatever i can get my hands on to flush my gut. wish me luck...
The Ramadhan "Articles"
according to all the articles that are written by "doctors" in ramadhan, the healthiest people with the most energy, least heart problems, least cholesterol problems, most immune to cancer and other diseases are poor people who are deprived of food, water, vitamins, and minerals. give me a goddamned break. ok, i'm with you here... fasting for one or two days while drinking gallons of water, fibers, and vitamins is very healthy. but fasting for a whole month, deprive yourself of food, water, and sleep, then massively binge on the worst junk food ever is not even remotely healthy. we have forgoten what ramadhan is. i'm sorry, but that's true. i'm not a very conservative fellow. i mean, yeah i'm ashamed that on any other month i don't pray as much as i should and that i only pray on time in ramadhan... but still, i know what ramadhan is about. poor people don't wait til maghrib prayer and binge on food. poor people don't sit and plan 28 dishes to cook for tomorrow. poor people don't spend 2000 riyals a week on food. don't go telling me that allah wanted us to fast because he wanted to do a detox diet on us! no no no... hold on... god wants you to feel their pain. sadly, the only pain we feel in ramadhan is the pain of an over stuffed belly after breakfast. you know, i went to the grocery store last friday... i bought more crap than i've ever bought in a grocery store... i even had a small arguement (yeah, a little fight) with maryam because of this crap. She was always picking up stuff and asking me "can you eat this?" i just say "No... but if you want it get it"... until i got really pissed cuz i felt like i was depriving her of what she likes just to make me feel better and i told her "hey, if you like it, buy it!" and ... wow... she gave me a look and said "i'm not gonna be eating stuff alone... if you're not eating it... i'm not... ok?"... then i knew that the ramadhan spirit was in the air. i kept looking around me and saw sad faces everywhere... people pissed off like they got into an accident... all the shelves were half empty... that's ramadhan to us. bad attitude, lots of food (mostly goes to the garbage can), and most importantly, overly crowded mosques. I spent 400 riyals that day in the grocery store... and i didn't even buy my beef... all the beef was gone... :( ... gone...
Date, and what they're good for
Look, people, the prophet ate dates because they were... think with me here... come on....... fill in the blanks.... ONE OF THE ONLY FOODS AVAILABLE THAT TIME!!!! meat was very expensive and scarce... no fruits or vegetable at that time... no time to cook... COME ON!!! it's obvious... but noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.... akeeeeeeeeed he ate them because they cure cancer.
look, the prophet was very conservative in everything... even his food... when ate a date... HE ATE A DATE!!! not 25 thousand of them, followed by harees, jireesh, kabsa, sileeg, lgaimat, gi6ayif (mmmmmm... gi6ayif)... the way we eat is a recipe for diabetes. dates are SUGAR!!!! NO VITAMINS NO ANTI OXIDANTS NO MINERALS!!! SUGAAAAARRRR!!!! WHY CAN'T YOU UNDERSTAND!!!!!!?????? SUGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR!!!!..... e7m... as you've noticed, i've been having a lot of trouble explaining this to co-workers. yes, eat one date... and eat something healthy with it. when i say healthy, i'm not talking about diet food... tuna and crap... no... my breakfast on the first day was a ribeye steak with mashed potatoes, chicken gravy, salad, and boiled veggies... i love that stuff!!! it tastes so good!!! with a diet cream soda... YUMMY... but when you tell that to other people, they act like it's pork!!! "what? you ate that? in ramadhan? you should eat harees, jireesh, thireed, m9aga3a, kabsa..." you ask why... they say "because it's not ramadhan food".... ok, so ramadhan food is tid bits of beef, dipped in mashed proccessed wheat, with a hole in the middle filled with cow fat (samn) ??? no, and to add insult to injury, some people put powdered sugar on it.
after tarawee7 prayers... how many of you go for an hour walk?
here's an interesting thought... on the last day of ramadhan, go get your blood work done... cholesterol, liver values, testosterone levels, blood sugar, kidney function tests, RBC... I assure you, it won't be pleasing...
and to everyone
kil 3am wintum ib5air
have a happy Ramadhan everyone
